New York, NY, February 28, 2011 – The first New York solo show of internationally recognized artist Vahid Chamani will be presented this February. Amino Acids by Vahid Chamani will be held in a temporary exhibition space on the Bowery from February 28 to March 6, 2011. The exhibition illuminates the development and breadth of contemporary Iranian art, a subject that has been explored with increasing frequency in museum and gallery exhibitions in Europe and the United States.

Amino Acids documents and investigates Iran’s present culture as disturbed by deep contrasts between tradition and modernism. These works articulate the struggle between liberation and nostalgia in contemporary Iran and by extension their relationship to the broader world.

The torment of this culture gap is expressed in dark timeless pieces where doubt riddles the identity of precarious futures. In oil and ink, false identities and self-deceit provocatively challenge progressive assumptions.
